Truth and Consequences!

How Costly was this blunder?

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver set a precedent ruling by barring the Clippers owner from having any role with the team following the release of recordings of Sterling spewing racist rhetoric in a conversation with his former mistress. Silver said the ruling cannot be appealed.

The NBA commissioner permanently bounced an unapologetic Donald Sterling from the league over the Los Angeles Clippers owner’s flagrantly foul attack on African-Americans.  Outraged pro hoops czar Adam Silver made a fast break Tuesday with the basketball bigot, announcing his league would take a zero-tolerance policy toward Sterling’s hate speech.  “Effective immediately, I am banning Mr. Sterling for life from any association with the Clippers organization or the NBA,” Silver said flatly.
The ban was merely the first part of Silver’s three-point play: He levied a $2.5 million fine against Sterling, and vowed to do “everything in my power” to force Sterling’s  to sale the Clippers.

The fine is the maximum allowed by the NBA, and the ban is not open for appeal, the commissioner said. Sterling learned about the penalties just before the 2 p.m. announcement.

Silver also confirmed that Sterling, in their conversations, expressed no remorse about the anti-black comments made public by TMZ.com.
And Sterling, 80, who bought the Clippers in 1981, never denied ordering his girlfriend not to “bring blacks to my games” — an edict that mentioned hoops Hall of Famer Magic Johnson.
A lawyer for V. Stiviano the girlfriend, told the Los Angeles Times Tuesday night that she was never Sterling’s mistress — and claimed she had made the tape with his knowledge and had not released it.
Sterling’s edict on the explosive tape mentioned hoops Hall of Famer Magic Johnson.

I've said enough, he is a another rich man who thinks money can by his way out of any situation, but  it goes to show that money does not buy everything, and that includes peoples self respect, and dignity, neither are for sale, and nor is racist hate tolerated in a dominated sport that is no less than 70% African American, and other so called minorities making up a few more percentage points.

Focused Hate coming from an NBA owner is preposterous, and proved that there is no place in basketball for Hate, the Players are all in a association together as one, so when one is hurt, they all feel his pain and will try and support the associate member to the best of their abilities.

Giving To Charities - Tax Deductions and Such

Benefits of Donating to Charities as a Tax Deduction

The tax code in the United States contains many provisions to encourage certain behavior. One area of behavior is the promotion of giving to qualified charities.

In the haste to make tax returns prepared and filed, many people absentmindedly forget to include deductions for donations to charities. If you itemize deductions on your tax return, this can be an expensive omission.

Pursuant to relevant provisions of the tax code, you can take significant deductions if you donate money or goods to a qualified charity. A qualified charity is one that is registered with the IRS as a 501c3 entity. The 501 designation refers to the relevant division of the tax code.

Significantly, not all charitable organizations qualify with the IRS. You can go to the IRS web site and search through a list to see if a particular group is included. If they are not, red flags should go be raised.

Before claiming your deduction for donations, there are a couple of things to keep in mind:

1. Politics - You may feel strongly about certain political ideologies, issues or candidates. You can contribute to the causes, but you can't deduct the contributions as charitable giving.

2. You can only deduct contributions actually made for the year in question. If you forgot to claim donations on your tax return for the 2004 year, you cannot claim them on a 2005 return. Instead, you should go back and amend the 2004 return.

3. If you make a contribution for a good or service, you can only deduct the amount you contribute which is in excess of the fair market value of the good or service. For example, many charitable groups will hold auctions to promote money. If your winning bid for a two night hotel stay is $800, you can claim a discount for the bid amount minus the normal price. You cannot only write off $800.

4. In general, donations of stock or property should assign the average market value, not an arbitrary number based on your judgment. Large ticket items should be held with an estimate.

5. The regulations for donating automobiles have changed. The charitable group should have sent you correspondence regarding the sum it was able to sell the vehicle for. This is the amount you can deduct, not the blue book amount previously allowed. If the charity has not sent you anything, call them to get written confirmation. They know it has to be done under new IRS regulations.

Donating to charities is a positive moral step. Make sure to claim your deductions to reap savings on your taxes.

Honesty Really is the Best Policy

Being Honest on your first date...

When you join an online dating service, you are looking for a girl that you can like…even come to love.  That girl is looking for a guy that SHE can like or even love.  What you aren’t looking for is a girl who would like your best friend or your idea of what the perfect guy looks like or talks like or thinks like.  So, in order to find the right girl for you…and she IS out there…you need to be completely honest with yourself about yourself when writing the online profile, during the dating process and beyond.

The best way to begin writing your profile is to carefully analyze your past relationship (s).  What was right?  What was wrong?  What things really made you like the last girl?  Which didn’t?  Don’t assume that just because you hated that your last girl was so totally self-involved that she couldn’t see anything else, you’ll be able to overlook that quality this time. You won’t.

If you aren’t 6’3” with a six-pack to be proud of, don’t claim to be.  If you are a bar tender, don’t claim to be a lawyer with a six figure income. If you are 40 going on 50, don’t pretend to be 30 something.

Remember, the idea here is to find a girl who will like you exactly like you are. If you have lied in your profile, the first face-to-face meeting will remove all her doubt that you are a liar…and probably a cheat, as well.

Lastly, once you have found a girl that you believe can be the one for you, for goodness sakes, cancel your membership to the online dating service.  After all, you know and she knows that online dating services are intended for those who are looking…not those who have found or been found.

Why You Should Avoid Google's Content Network

Best Practices to Use...

When you create an AdWords campaign you have a choice as to whether you want your ads to appear on Google's network of content sites. These are sites that have signed up for Google's Adsense program, which allows them to display AdWords ads on their pages. Generally speaking, this is not very targeted traffic. Google tries to display your ad on pages with relevant content, and it does a pretty good job of it. Nonetheless, I personally do not like this traffic, and I will tell you why.

When marketing on the Internet, the sooner your ad is displayed to your prospect, the greater your chance of making a sale. This is the reason why search engine traffic performs so well. Most surfers initiate their Internet activity at a search engine. Indeed, many have a search engine like Google, Yahoo, or MSN set as their home page. In other words, it is the first thing they see when they log onto the Internet.

Lets take a closer look at the chain of events. A surfer logs onto the Internet because she wants to find something. She goes to Google and enters her search and among the results she sees your ad. It catches her attention and she clicks through to your site. Since you are offering exactly what she is looking for, she is turned into a customer and you make a sale. This scenario happened the way it did because we understand the virtues of targeted traffic, but it also happened because we were the first to satisfy the surfer's needs.

Now, say the surfer has been online for some time and has been surfing from one site to another, looking around and possibly doing research. This surfer may be frustrated because she has not found what she wants, and is therefore in a negative mindset. What is more likely, however, is that this surfer has turned into a window shopper. Either way, since this surfer has been online for some time now, the result is she will be harder to convert into a sale.

When your site is shown on content sites it is being displayed to surfers who have often been online for a longer period of time and are generally not as receptive to your message. Add to this the fact that your ad will not be as targeted and your chances of converting the surfer are even less.

What we want is highly targeted traffic and we want that traffic to be receptive to our message. As that traffic becomes more and more diluted, its value diminishes as well.

One strategy that can be used with content targeting is to create a separate campaign for it. In this campaign all bids would be as low as possible, i.e. 5 cents. In this way you can display your ad on content sites, but the cost would be more in line with the traffic's value. Keep in mind also that there is greater chance of click fraud when advertising on content sites, which is another good reason to keep bids as low as possible.

Google recently added a feature where you can bid separately on your content network ads, which allows you to bid lower on your content network ads without having to setup another campaign. This is useful and can be a good solution. I still prefer to create a separate campaign for content network advertising, however. A separate campaign allows for greater organization and analysis. This choice is one of personal preference, though, and you should use whichever option you feel more comfortable with.

In the end, you should be skeptical about content targeting, as the traffic quality will not be the same as the pure search engine traffic. If you really want the extra traffic, then make sure you bid separately for your content site campaign, keeping your bids as low as possible. You should also keep a close eye on your stats to make sure you are not paying for any fraudulent clicks. Good luck.

Are Student Loans Becoming Necessary Evils?

When it comes to getting a college education most people can agree that the costs can be staggering at best. Even the least expensive colleges in the nation can add up over a four or five year period of time creating crippling debt for those who do not qualify for some of the better grant programs of substantial scholarships.

The problem lies in the fact that the parents of most traditional college students make too much money to qualify for the free financial aid that is needs based and very few qualify for the limited number of scholarships that are available to students based on merit. Even among those that qualify competition and fierce and there are no guarantees. Enter the student loan. There are all kinds of student loans and unfortunately with rising costs associated with college attendance and the growing necessity of a college degree for success in this country it is becoming more and more difficult to pay the price that is associated with higher education.

There are three types of loans that are commonly found for college students. They include federal student loans, federal plus loans, and private student loans. Each type of loan has advantages and disadvantages that are unique to that particular loan. Below I will give a little information about each of the loan types and whom they may benefit.

Student loans. There are three different types of student loans: subsidized, unsubsidized, and Perkins loans.

Perkins loans are only available to students who display exceptional financial need. These loans are available at a 5% interest rate and are available to both graduate and undergraduate students. Perkins loans are extended through the university you attend and will be repaid to the university unlike the other types of student loans, which are repaid to the lending agency.

Subsidized student loans are loans in which the interest is deferred until graduation or you cease to be a qualifying student. What this means is that while you are responsible for repaying the loan upon graduation the interest on these loans does not begin to accrue until your begin repayment 6 months after graduation or your cease to be at least a half time student of the university. You must qualify based on your income in order to receive a subsidized student loan. While the needs requirements for these loans isn't as grave as those required in order to receive a Perkins loan you must still qualify.

Unsubsidized student loans do not require qualification on a needs basis. You must be a student and enrolled at least half time in order to receive an unsubsidized student loan. The good news however for those who do not qualify based on needs for other student loan options is that this type of loan is available to all qualifying students regardless of need. The interest on these loans however begins to accrue immediately, which means they can really add up over time.

PLUS loans are loans that are taken out by the parents of students who need the funds in order to cover educational expenses. The maximum amount that can be borrowed is the cost of attendance minus any financial aid awards the student has already received. The repayment on these loans begins 60 days after the loan is dispersed and the repayment period can be up to 10 years.

In order to cover the costs involved in education that go above and beyond what the government recognizes as acceptable college related expenses you can opt to go the route of private student loans rather then relying solely upon federal financial aid for your student loan source. These loans require that you qualify in order to receive them based on your credit rather than your need and must be used for educational purposes only. With these particular loans you really need to make sure you read all the fine print as different companies offer different conditions and different perks. You should really take the time and compare prices and options before taking out a private student loan and this should be done only as a last resort.

Student loans for many can be the difference in attending college and getting the education you are hoping for and not being able to pay the high costs that go along with higher education. For this reason you should treat them with respect and not take them lightly.

Fake "Facebook Security Team" scouring the net for your credentials!

An account posing as that of the Facebook Security Team has been spotted sending warnings to page administrators, trying to fool them into believing that their Facebook account will be suspended due to a violation of the social network's Terms of Service:

Warning, the form looks like this:

The message offers a link for verifying the account, and it takes users to a third party Facebook application that requests them to enter their Facebook page name, email or phone and password.

If entered and submitted, that information is automatically sent to the scammers behind this phishing scheme and used to hijack the account.

If you have fallen for the trick, try to access your account. If you are able to do so, change your password immediately. If you have already been locked out, report the compromise and Facebook will help you regain control of the account.

"Anytime you see a Facebook page in the following format:apps.Facebook.com/app_name_here/, you should know that you are NOT dealing with an application created by Facebook," Facecrooksadvises. "Scammers use official sounding page names, applications and links to make their schemes appear legitimate to unsuspecting and ill-informed users."

    Avoid Confusion To Improve Memory

Using peg words in helping us to remember needed information is a good method. However, one thing that we must be careful when we use this method is confusion. When we use the same words in memorizing things, there is a large possibility of confusion. For instance, if you will memorize a roster of countries and their currencies on peg words, then you memorize the US states on the same peg, you might have the chance of recalling that Florida is the Capital of Mongolia.

Avoiding confusion in using peg words depends in some individuals who can have several information of the same pegs with no sweat at all, while other people are entirely confused. This can be practically avoided if we continually practicing. Some techniques that you can use to avoid confusion in using pegs to improve your memory are the following:

    1. Short-term lists

If you need to memorize a series of data for a short-term recall, such as a to do list, then you don't have to make such effort. By the time you are familiarized with your list, you will not mind if you cannot remembered the first task in the morning.

    2. Medium-term lists

If you need to be familiarized with a series of data for a medium-term recall, such as shopping lists for the whole month, or an upcoming game schedule, you can try a different method of using pegs. You don't have to memorize hundreds of new peg words; mostly you just need at least ten sets or even lower. You can use the usual set of 1-10 on the first set that you want to be familiarized with, then you can expand it to 11-20 when the need arise.

    3. Long-term lists

If you really need to memorize permanent information, you need to make an effort in planning. For example, you can memorize countries and their official currencies using the same peg words. However, if this was done several months ago, you brain can actually forgot what you need. Also, since there are over 200 countries, but only 100 pegs available, you will need to re-use pegs again. You can also use the technique of association when can you remember the name of the country and the currency.

    4. Long-term lists version 2.0

This technique is quite different but it can help you when you need to memorize fast lists such as the multiplication table. This technique can help you recall the multiplication table permanently and fast. It would take forever if we would devote our time searching for answers for simple multiplication equations such as 8 x 9 = 72.

So in this technique, forget about the peg words and just memorize the whole multiplication table by saying the equation like 8 x 9 = 72 for a dozen of times until it will be permanently associated with your brain. This is hard since it will take longer to memorize all the number equations. But don't grieve yet, there are only few things that you should memorize using this "over and over again" technique.

Only use peg words if they necessary. As an example, if you want to memorize your friend's cellular phone number. There is no need to use specific peg words you can learn it all with association.
